Operating a jewellery business involves strict compliance with several legal, financial, and ethical regulations. These are essential to ensure consumer protection, prevent financial crimes, and maintain industry standards.

  • File regular returns and maintain proper invoicing and tax records.

3. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Hallmarking (India-specific)

  • Mandatory hallmarking of gold jewellery to certify purity and authenticity.

  • Register your store or manufacturing unit with BIS to legally sell hallmarked items.

4. Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Compliance

  • Jewellery businesses, especially those dealing in high-value transactions, must comply with AML regulations.

  • Maintain customer records, verify identity (KYC), and report suspicious transactions to the appropriate authority (e.g., FIU-IND in India).

  • Comply with customs and foreign trade rules if you import/export gold, diamonds, or gemstones.

  • Obtain Import Export Code (IEC) and follow documentation requirements.

6. Labour Laws

  • Maintain transparent policies on pricing, exchanges, and returns.

8. Environmental & Waste Disposal Regulations
